Our Breeding Philosophy

Breeding decisions are guided by purpose, precision and proven results. We don’t chase trends – we build resilient herds that perform reliably in real farming conditions.

Selection criteria focus on:

  • Fertility and calving ease, ensuring herd expansion without complication
  • Veld adaptability, allowing animals to thrive on natural grazing with minimal supplementation
  • Structural soundness, including correct frame, feet and udder formation
  • Temperament, making animals easier to handle and less stressed in working conditions
  • Performance traits, such as average daily gain, carcass quality and maternal efficiency

All stock is raised under ethical, veld-based conditions, with close attention to health, stress management and long-term productivity. Breeding records are maintained meticulously and buyers receive guidance to ensure the animals they select match their farming objectives.

Long after the sale, clients continue to benefit from our expertise and support – because supplying cattle is only part of the relationship. Helping you build a successful, sustainable herd is the goal.

Boran Cattle

Breed Origin: East African Zebu

Production Use: Beef breeding, crossbreeding base, maternal lines

Boran cattle are a medium-framed indigenous breed renowned for their high fertility, early maturity and feed efficiency in extensive and semi-intensive production systems. Their excellent adaptability to arid and bushveld conditions makes them ideal for low-input systems across South Africa. Borans exhibit strong maternal traits, including high milk yield relative to size and protective mothering instinct, leading to excellent calf survival rates. Their low maintenance requirements, combined with good dressing percentages (typically 55–58%) and uniform carcass quality, make them a solid investment for both stud and commercial beef production.

Key Traits:

  • High reproductive efficiency (short inter-calving periods)
  • Heat and parasite tolerance
  • Excellent feed conversion under veld conditions
  • Docile temperament, easy to manage
  • Strong hybrid vigour in crossbreeding systems

Ankole Cattle

Breed Origin: Central Africa

Production Use: Niche beef markets, conservation genetics, breed diversification

Ankole cattle are an ancient Sanga-type breed, distinct for their impressive horn structure and high cultural and economic value. These animals are drought-tolerant and metabolically efficient, thriving on low-quality forage and requiring minimal supplementation. Ankoles produce lean, nutrient-dense beef, appealing to specialty and health-conscious markets. They are valued for their genetic hardiness, longevity and low-input adaptability, making them well-suited to regenerative and

conservation-focused operations. Their aesthetic appeal also offers marketing value for agritourism and boutique farming.

Key Traits:

  • Adapted to harsh, dry environments
  • Low methane emission potential (compared to European breeds)
  • Long productive lifespan (often 12+ years of breeding)
  • Distinct market value due to lean meat profile and heritage appeal
  • Adds resilience and biodiversity to crossbreeding programmes

Commercial Beef Cattle

Breed Composition: Crosses involving Brahman, Simbra, Nguni, Boran and Angus lines

Production Use: Oxen, weaners, feedlot-ready animals, breeding females

Our commercial herd is purpose-bred to deliver market-driven performance – combining frame size, muscling, weight gain and temperament for maximum feedlot and pasture profitability. Selection focuses on growth rate (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and meat quality, while maintaining maternal efficiency and veld adaptability. These animals are ideal for producers seeking reliable weaner sales, fast-finishing oxen or cost-effective genetic improvements to their current herd.

Key Traits:

  • High weaning and post-weaning growth rates
  • Excellent average daily gain (ADG) in feedlot conditions
  • Balanced temperament and strong structural correctness
  • Versatility across weaner, store and ox production systems
  • Genetic selection for tick resistance and disease resilience
